Outcome: Initial Outcome

In 2021, America’s Health Rankings reported that 18.5% of high school students in Kentucky consumed soda or pop two or more times per day. In response to this issue, the Menifee County Nutrition Education Program assistant partnered with the Menifee County Department of Juvenile Justice Group Home to address this concern. Together, they delivered six lessons from the Teen Cuisine curriculum to 12 residents of the Group Home. The curriculum topics included reading labels, eating healthy snacks, staying physically active, and food safety. Pre- and post- evaluations were conducted to measure the impact of these lessons. The results were encouraging: 75% of the residents showed improvement in drinking fewer sugary drinks. The residents also said that they enjoyed learning how to develop healthier eating habits and appreciated the opportunity to improve their well-being.
