Studio Appalachia | Appalachian Arts Fest
Author: Jeff Fugate
Planning Unit: Community & Economic Development (CEDIK)
Major Program: Community Design/Creative Placemaking
Outcome: Initial Outcome
In partnership with the Appalachian Arts Alliance and City of Hazard, we are building the capacity of Hazard to support the Arts and Creative Placemaking on a sustained level through an NEA-funded Our Town project. We have been able to support the hiring and professional-development of an Arts Associate with the local arts organization. They have rebooted a weekly free live-music event in downtown Hazard and are organizing the inaugural Appalachian Arts Fest, a multi-day conference for artists to workshop best-practices for arts as a livelihood.
The project will support new works of art for the Festival, as well as support repositioning a defunct community asset--the Bobby Davis Museum Building--for rotating exhibitions, workshops, and events.
