Outcome: Initial Outcome

An interest in cooking and preparing foods at home has become more common over the past few years. With that increased interest, there have been more requests for programs and hands-on educational courses in this area. To address this issue the Family and Consumer Sciences Extension Agent provided different learning opportunities in Hopkins County to help residents craft new skills for preparing food at home. These classes included: Cheese Making, Soups and Sandwiches, Quick Breads, and Food Preservation. As a result of these programs, a new group of clients has begun utilizing FCS Extension programs. Additionally, there has been more interest in future FCS Extension programming. One participant said they had been trying to make homemade biscuits for a while and could never figure out why they were not working but after attending the quick breads class they were able to learn from their mistakes and make them at home. A participant from a canning class had a question before the class about liquid loss during the processing time. After the class, she shared that she had learned what she had been doing wrong and now feels more comfortable preserving food.
