Marion County Master Cattlemen Program

June 27, 2024

I collaborated with Nelson and Washington Counties to host the Master Cattlemen Program. We, as a tri-county area noticed the need for education in detail and specific to the topics covered by master cattlemen. This program target audience was current farmers and beginning and young farmers. The UK Beef Extension Team presented on a specific topic at each meeting. Topics included: marketing, nutrition, reproduction, health, winter feeding, and genetics. Each session was held at a different county office rotating between Marion, Nelson & Washington counties. The Master Cattlemen program had been requested by several producers in our tri-county area as it had been more than five years since the last Master Cattlemen program in our area.

Master Cattlemen participants received a binder of each topic class materials  and once completed the classes, a farm sign to display on their farms.

There was a total of 50 participants. Half of the participants were from Marion County. From Marion County, 42 white males and 8 white females were impacted.

Feedback we received said:

“It was a well-organized program.”

“Would like to also have a hay program similar to this format.”

“Great class, good information and lots of knowledge from presenters.”
