Plan of Work: Strengthening Adair County's Agriculture Industry
Outcome: Intermediate Outcome
This past year, the Adair County Cooperative Extension Service assisted12 local farmers in developing or updating their Kentucky Nutrient Management Plans (KNMP). This service provided to farmers aims to improve nutrient management practices on livestock farms, ensuring compliance with state regulations and promoting sustainable agriculture. The extension service provides education on nutrient management via workshops and one-on-one consultations, providing farmers with the necessary tools, knowledge, and resources to create effective nutrient management plans. As a result, these farmers are now better equipped to manage their livestock waste and fertilizers, enhancing the overall productivity and sustainability of their operations.
For the 12 farmers assisted by the Adair County Cooperative Extension Service, the updated KNMPs have led to more efficient use of resources, reducing the need for purchased fertilizers and minimizing waste disposal costs. This efficiency translates into direct financial savings, improving the profitability of their farming operations. Additionally, by avoiding potential penalties associated with non-compliance with state regulations, these farmers protect their businesses from financial risks.
