According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention less than one-quarter, 24% of children 6 to 17 years of age participate in 60 minutes of physical activity every day. The Menifee County Nutrition Education Program Assistant partnered with the Menifee County School District to deliver LEAP: Literacy, Eating and Activity for Preschool/Primary to first grade students. LEAP for Health uses storybooks and activities to teach children about nutritious foods, healthy eating habits, handwashing, food safety and being physically active. According to a pre-questionnaire that was given at the beginning of the school year the results proved 25% of the first-grade students lacked in being active. After the Nutrition Education Program Assistant delivered 6 LEAP for Health storybooks and activities lessons to the first-grade students, a post-questionnaire was given at the end of the school year, which showed that 99% of the first – grade students showed positive reactions to being active.
