Ag in the Classroom Pre-K Schools Dairy Cattle

Planning Unit: Union County CES
Major Program: Agriculture & Natural Resources
Plan of Work: Ag in the Classroom
Outcome: Initial Outcome
The problem Ag in the classroom is help the younger students understand about Ag/hort within the community and across the state.
The educational program response: The dairy cattle program was to teach the students about how ice cream is made and all the hard work that goes into being a dairy farmer. The book that was read to the students was the Tales of the Dairy Godmother Chuck’s Ice Cream Wish (which is a Ag in the Classroom National book). After the students learned all about how ice cream is made they had to put in some work and milk a dairy cow! After all that hard work students got to enjoy some ice cream.
The participants/target audience Pre-K students at Union Co Hs and Morganfield Head start Program
Other partners (if applicable)
Program impact or participant response. The students loved getting to listen to the book and talk about their favorite ice cream they enjoy. They also really enjoyed getting to milk the dairy cow even the teachers wanted in on that activity too. Milking the cow helped students with motor skills.
