Major Program: Leadership

Plan of Work: Developing Extension and Community Leadership

Outcome: Initial Outcome

The traditional Kentucky 4-H program does not start until youth reach the age of nine, known as 4-H age. In Spencer County the Cloverbuds program offers a glimpse of 4-H to those that have not met club age.  These youth are from 5-8 years of age and get to experience what 4-H has to offer. This is an opportunity to prepare them to be well rounded 4-H members when they reach 9 years old.

This year 13 plus youth are experiencing Cloverbuds learning agriculture, expressive arts, health, natural resources, SET, and much more with hands on activities and crafts at regular meetings. With the help of volunteer teen leaders this has been possible with a bonus for the teens who have each gained leadership experience along the way. The leaders have used their communication skills, both verbal and nonverbal, to teach the local youth and serve their local community.

Parents are also volunteering to help at the Cloverbud Meetings.  The goal of the 4-H Agent is to gain new volunteer leaders that want to continue with the desire to serve their local community for years to come.  90% of the families are not only new to 4-H but to Extension, which means that through this program we have been able to reach new audiences.
