Situation:

Due to Spencer County being known as one of the fastest growing counties in Kentucky, we, Extension Council and agents, realize the need to develop community leadership.

Long-Term Outcomes:

Increase the number of local residents participating in county wide, regional programs, and activities.

Intermediate Outcomes:

Spencer County residents will actively participate in programs through the Extension Service and other community groups.

Initial Outcomes:

Residents will identify local areas of interest that they can become involved in. Extension leadership will provide a variety of training that residents will use to support county activities and programs that seek their interest.

Evaluation:

Outcome: Volunteer Development

Indicator: Number of Volunteer Lead Classes/Programs/Clubs.

Method: Observation/Surveys.

Timeline: July 2023 – June 2024.


Outcome: Homemakers with various groups. 

Indicator: Number of hours of service.

Method: Observation and Pre/post surveys.

Timeline: July 2023 – June 2024.


Outcome: Council Development

Indicator: Development of council committees. 

Method: Trainings for officers and members of councils.

Project or Activity: Community Classes (EM, BR, MT)

Content or Curriculum: Facilitators develop their own materials to teach the residents of Spencer County in individual classes.

Inputs: Extension Council, Extension District Board, University of Kentucky Specialists, Family Resource Youth Service Center, Multipurpose Community Action, Spencer County School System, Master Clothing Volunteer, Local Producers, Homemaker’s, 4-H Members, Leaders, Volunteers, Spencer County Chamber of Commerce.

Project or Activity: Teen Conference, State 4-H Boards, 4-H Camp, Teen Summit, Kentucky Volunteer Forum. (MT)

Content or Curriculum: Leadership Development for Middle School and High School students, as well as 4-H Volunteers.

Inputs: Extension District Board, University of Kentucky Specialists, Family Resource Youth Service Center, Spencer County School System, Homemaker’s, 4-H Members, Leaders, Volunteers.

Spencer County Cloverbuds

The traditional Kentucky 4-H program does not start until youth reach the age of nine, known as 4-H age. In Spencer County the Cloverbuds program offers a glimpse of 4-H to those that have not met club age.  These youth are from 5-8 years of age and get to experience what 4-H has to offer. Teen Conference 2024

The 100th Annual Kentucky 4-H Teen Conference took place at the University of Kentucky from June 11th to 14th, 2024. The conference aimed to achieve several objectives for its participants, including developing leadership and teamwork skills, improving communication abilities, fostering civic engagement, expanding knowledge in 4-H core content areas, and enhancing social skills through networking. Elementary Communications Program

Spencer County Schools and Spencer County 4-H partner together to provide Elementary 4-H School Club Programs for all 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students.  Communication is the key component to this program.  At every meeting or enrichment, all students are required to communicate with their classmates by participating in the activity where they say their name and something about them self.
