The problem
Producer pulled soil samples for a pasture field to receive fertilizer recommendations. After discussion with producer, upon delivering the results and fertilizer recommendations it was discovered that they had only pulled a few cores and in the "bad" areas of the field. The fertilizer recommendation was very high in regard to what would normally be recommended for pastures.
The educational program response
The producer was educated on the importance of pulling a good representative sample at the correct depth for the pasture.
The participants/target audience
Beef cow/calf producer

Program impact or participant response.
The producer re-pulled a good representative sample of the pasture field, and sent to UK soils lab for analysis. The soil analysis from the "good' sample revealed all areas of fertility were in the sufficient range for forage production resulting in a huge savings for the producer as opposed to applying fertilizer based on the "bad" soil sample as Nitrogen was the only nutrient needed for forage production in this case.
