They majority of youth who participated ranged from grades third-sixth. The Central Kentucky Area Nutrition Agent was in charge of organizing, training, and supervision of the Super Star Chef Program. Twenty-one college students from local universities were hired for the summer, traveled the state and implement three-day camps in a different county every week. The main focus of this program included; My Plate, knife skills, food safety, reading labels, hand washing, and physical activity. Youth who participated were also able to work in groups and create healthy recipes during each day of the program that related to a topic that they were learning. At the end of the program, pre/post tests showed that 94% of youth improvement in one or more of the following areas: described the parts of the My Plate food groups, demonstrated safe knife skills, hand washing, and food safety practices, located information on nutrition labels, and were physically activity for 30 to 60 minutes each day. Youth who participated also improved cognitive skills as they read recipes, followed written and oral instructions, completed tasks in time allotted, and worked cooperatively in groups as they created healthy recipes each day using math, reading, decision making and communication skills.  Due to the interest of this program, it has continued on for another summer and has incorporated having agents trained to teach the Super Star Chef program in their county.
