Senior Citizens Learn to Cook with the Calendar

For older individuals, eating healthier can be a difficult goal to reach and maintain, let alone cooking meals three times a day. Menifee County Family Consumer Science Agent visit's the Menifee County Senior Citizen Center monthly to demonstrate cooking recipes within the NEP calendar, cooking techniques, food safety, and nutrition tips to elderly audiences. Menifee County Senior citizens love to learn new recipes, budgeting tips, and of course sample the recipe of the month. Each visit, Seniors will get to watch a hands-on cooking demonstration and educational materials to take home. Each month, the audience continues to grow in participation, starting with 30 seniors in attendance at the start of January 2023 and ending at 55 seniors at the middle of December 2023. the impact this has made on this audience is contributing to better health all around. They have saved money, learned proper food safety and food handling techniques, and continued to follow the recipes from calendars of years past, ensuring healthy meals are being eaten at home. This program is a staple for Menifee County Family and Consumer sciences and the older population of Menifee County.
