Planning Unit: Jefferson County CES

Major Program: Community Engagement

Plan of Work: Promoting Sustainable Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Urban Forestry

Outcome: Initial Outcome

Over 20 high schools in Jefferson County and the surrounding area send students of color to the 13 annual HBCU Showcase at the Kentucky International Civic Center. There these scholars were able to watch presentations and experience different action and increase enrollment at the university. KYSU's presence at these college fairs also gives scholars a visual of the university's presence in the community.

At these events, KYSU representatives provide  and financial aid opportunities. They also answer questions from students and their families. KYSU's participation in college fairs is an important way to reach potential students and encourage them to consider KYSU for their undergraduate education.

JCPS agents have made contact with over 2,100 scholars at five high schools and three off-campus locations, bringing more students to KYSU. One parent from Butler Traditional High School said, "Thank you so much for showing up from my alma mater. WHO YOU WITH? K-STATE!!!" This comment reflects the excitement and enthusiasm that students and their families have for KYSU. JCPS agents are working hard to connect with potential students and encourage them to consider KYSU for their undergraduate education.
