According to 2021 Census data, the median household income for Powell County KY is 39,493.  The 2023 cost for one youth to attend 4-H Summer Camp is $275, in addition to any transportation and supplies needed for camp week.

For the 2023 camping season, Powell County was able to attend camp with 10 adult volunteers, and 73 youth participants.  This number remains the highest on record since 2010 for the county - tied with the 2022 camp season.

The Powell County 4-H Council has made it their mission to keep 4-H camp affordable for all families, especially those with limited resources in our county.

Through multiple annual fundraisers and several community partner donations received by the 4-H Council, Powell County was able to offer various scholarships to youth in need.  One of the first scholarship programs offered was a $275 camper scholarship for any adult who was willing to attend as a volunteer for the week.  This was the council's way of showing appreciation to volunteers spending their week at camp.  In addition to this, the first 40 campers who completed their paperwork received $100 off the camp registration fee.  This encouraged parents to secure their child's spot early.  Several other application based scholarships were awarded to campers with any donations still available.

These scholarships allowed youth who attended to participate in many new opportunities and network with youth from other counties.
