Bingocize® is a 10-week, evidence-based health promotion program approved through both SNAP-Ed and The National Council on Aging (NCOA). Bingocize® combines exercise and health information with the familiar game of bingo, which is a great and fun way to get seniors moving and socializing.
The goals of the program were to help older adults:
- Improve and/or maintain mobility and independence
- Learn and use health information focused on falls reduction, improved nutrition, and other health-related behaviors
- Engage older adults in social settings
The Powell County Family and Consumer Sciences Agent partnered with a local housing authority and senior citizens center to facilitate Bingocize to target Fall Prevention. Each of the groups met twice per week for 45 minutes for 10 consecutive weeks.
After completing the program participants reported
- Feeling more comfortable talking to their healthcare provider about medications and/or risks of falling.
- Feeling more comfortable talking to family and friends about falling.
- Feeling more comfortable increasing activity.
- Feeling more satisfied with life.
- Would recommend Bingocize to a friend or relative.
75% of the participants reported making safety modifications in their home, such as installing grab bars or securing loose rugs to reduce the risk of falls.
One participant reported that the exercises she learned in Bingocize helped her to walk up and down the stairs in her home without any issues.
