The Mercer County Nutrition Education Program Assistant Senior partnered with Mercer County Public Library for a six-week program called Prime Time. The curriculum used was Healthy Choices for Every Body. The Program Assistant gave out the 2023 NEP Calendar that contained the recipes that the Assistant prepared to share each week. The families would try the recipe, then discuss if it was a recipe that they liked and would like and choose to have at home. Each week 100% of the children wanted more with 100% of the families stating they would want it as a meal at home. Several of the parents shared that they were surprised that the children had tried it and really liked it.

The Assistant shared about ways to plan meals, why families should plan meals together, how time and money could be saved by planning meals ahead of time. Her goal was to get the family to eat better or to make better choices, each week when the families returned several of the families stated they had made the recipe that the Assistant had made the week before and that the family really enjoyed. They also stated that they were surprised how easy it was to make the recipe and that cleaning up took very little time. At the end of the six weeks several families stated they made better choices the last six weeks while taking the class, 80% said they had been cooking more at home.
