Day Treatment
The Mercer County Nutrition Education Program Assistant Senior partnered with Mercer County Day Treatment for the 2022-23 school year. Each month, students came to the Mercer County Extension Office where they learned how to read a recipe, how to gather items for the recipe, how to use measuring spoons, how to use wet and dry measuring cups, and how to use various kitchen safety skills including knife safety. The Program Assistant gave the recipe to the students and had acquired items students would need to make recipes. The Program Assistant also taught the students about the different terms in the recipe. Students got the items needed and they completed the proper measuring or cutting that was needed to complete the recipe. Once ingredients were measured and brought together, students learned how to mix and cook the item. 100% tried the recipe each month. 90% of the students liked the recipe and indicated that they would like to make the recipe again at home.
