Major Program: Super Star Chef

Plan of Work: Enhance Life Skills and Build Consumer Awareness

Outcome: Initial Outcome

The Todd County Extension Agent for Family and Consumer Sciences Education partnered with the Todd County Family Resource and Youth Service Centers (FRYSC) to offer a 3-day Super Star Chef Camp to 20 youth.  The Todd County Extension NEP Assistant and FCS Agent delivered the instruction, the 4-H agent assisted with physical activity, and 6 adults served as group leaders.

Pre- and post-test were administered to all students. A comparison of responses showed an increase in participant understanding of nutrition concepts and kitchen/food safety skills from an average of 76.6% in the pre-test to 94.4% during the post-test.

The post-test also included seven self- assessment of participants’ intentions to make health nutrition choices and be more physically active. After participating in the Super Star Chef program:

              93% agreed they could identify healthy foods;

              93% planned to try new foods;

              93% said they would drink less soda;

             100% said they planned to drink more water every day, would be more physically active, and planned to eat more fruits and vegetables.
