With approximately 12,000 beef cows, beef cattle income ranks second in the county. To improve profits and sustainability, beef educational meetings were conducted in cooperation with the Taylor County Cattlemen’s Association.
To promote beef in the county, the Association cooked at the C & S, Mission Store customer appreciation, Juneteenth celebration, Murakami employee appreciation, Kentucky Christian School fundraiser, Bluegrass Stockyards customer appreciation, Chamber of Commerce luncheon, Diversity Festival, two Ingersoll Rand employee appreciations, Southern States customer appreciation, Farm Credit Mid-America open house, Corbin Lawncare Open House, Taylor County FFA Feeding America.
The Taylor County Cattlemen’s Association hosted a Cattlemen’s Roundup with approximately 100 producers participating in the event. Participants viewed new products from five vendors and educational sessions on forage establishment and forage quality along with a drill setting demonstration.
Educational meetings were also held on Mineral Nutrition, Herd Health and Cattle Market and Management Considerations.
The Taylor County Cattlemen’s Association also administers the CAIP program. Fifty-seven people received funds in 11 investment areas for a total of $157,340.20 and the YAIP program with 16 youth receiving funding of $937.50 each for a total of $15,000. They also presented four high school seniors with a $750 scholarship and made donations to the Taylor County Fair Beef Show and both local FFA chapters for beef awards.
A local beef producer is currently serving on the state board for the Kentucky Cattlemen’s Association.
