Families Learning and Making Changes Together

Outcome: Initial Outcome

SNAP-Ed teaches increasing the amount of fruit and vegetables, using lowfat dairy and eating whole grain foods will lead to improved health. With this in mind the SNAP Education Assistant in Anderson County provided a Family Nutrition class.

Using the Teen Cuisine curriculum, along with Healthy Choices for Everybody, families focused on the importance of good nutrition, food safety and preparation of easy, healthy recipes.

Entry and Exit questionnaires confirmed that positive changes were made in the amount of fruits and vegetables that were eaten, as well as in food safety and physical activity. Upon completion of the program, one mother reported that her family had prepared some of the recipes from class and they were working together to find new healthy recipies that they could enjoy as a family.

In conclusion, the determination is families who together plan and prepare healthy meals will be healthier in the long run.
