Center for Crop Diversification Increases Educational Outreach Opportunities for Farmers with the Help of Social Media

Author: Emily Spencer

Planning Unit: Agr Economics

Major Program: Small Farm Diversification

Outcome: Initial Outcome

In March of 2023, I took over the Center for Crop Diversification Instagram and Facebook pages in an effort to reach more farmers where they are. I worked to translate many of our existing resources (publications, webinars, etc.) into easily digestible, visually engaging educational content that we then shared out on our social media pages. Additionally, we increased visibility of the Center for Crop Diversification team by highlighting each team member in a Team Tuesday post. Since March of 2023, the CCD Facebook Reach has increased 789.6% to reach 11,778 people from last year. Our Instagram Reach increased 303.1k% to 3,032 people. We gained 98 Facebook followers (an increase of 237.9% YOY) and 140 Instagram followers (an increase of 13.9k% YOY). As a result of this increased engagement, the CCD has built new relationships with growers across the state and increased the visibility of the work that we do.
