Outcome: Initial Outcome

On April 25th, I held a beginner’s fruit tree class as part of the Homesteading Basics series I was doing. My goal for this class was to help educate participants on fruit trees and give them information to take home. I wanted to have this class because as an agent I had received several calls and concerns about fruit trees or how to get started. I reached out to Dr. Rick Durham, UK Horticulturist, for help with this topic. He came down and spoke about fruit tree varieties, common diseases, insects to be aware of, spraying fruit trees and their growing season.

This class was very informative, and each participant was able to leave with a binder of information and helpful resources. As an agent with fruit trees at home, I learned new things I didn’t know. The next day, I had a client call and let me know she was buying her first fruit trees thanks to the information she learned at the class. She stated she had always wanted fruit trees but didn’t know how to get started or how to care for them until this class.

Fruit Trees for beginner’s class impacted 9 white females and 2 white males.
