Outcome: Long-Term Outcome

In June 2023, I was contacted by the general manager of Petco in Frankfort, KY. He had received goldfish and had 90% mortality in both his first and second batches. I took a water sample and a sample of moribund fish back to the KSU FDDL. The fish were suffering from ammonia toxicity and low DO. I recommended keeping their holding tank at a salinity of 2.5 ppt to reduce stress and provide electrolytes for the fish. I also recommended adding oxygen to the bag before sending instead of just air. The general manager talked to the fish farm and added salt and more air into the system as recommended and mortality decreased in the systems to around 15%.
