Owsley County Extension Service partnered with the Owsley County Parks and REC Center to help increase the knowledge of healthier eating habits and exercising. The group met three times a week for a total of eight weeks. Each session started with a healthy recipe and nutrition lesson from the Healthy Choice curriculum. The group participants ranged from ages twenty to eighty-two. Participants reported zero exercise before the program.
At the end of the eight weeks, fourteen participants reported; walking a minimum of three miles each per week, making small changes to be more active and being more aware of their eating habits. They also reported that because of the program and being a part of group had given them the motivation to make needed changes. The group continues to meet three times a week.
