Planning Unit: Nicholas County CES

Major Program: Agriculture

Plan of Work: New Agriculture Opportunities

Outcome: Initial Outcome

Nicholas County Youth Livestock Shows were held June 14th-17th at our county livestock barn. The 4-H livestock club helped 26 youth with this program to educate on different strategies of showing and to become more comfortable around livestock knowing the basics and how to care for their livestock, they also went and competed in skillathons, went to the Kentucky Beef Expo Judging contest as well as other judging contests put on by surrounding counties. We had 15 kids that decided to participate in the county fair.

In total we had 46 lambs, 26 cattle, 85 hogs and 62 goats, with last year’s numbers only having 36 lambs, 81 hogs, 72 goats and 18 cattle. With the help of the community and the local volunteers for this program we were able to get great numbers for these shows and get donations to give out to these kids that came and showed and worked hard with their livestock!
