Plan of Work: Community and Leadership Development

Outcome: Initial Outcome

On December 21st, I held a first time holiday tabletop centerpiece class. I had 20 people sign up for the program and had 12 attend the class because some couldn't show with work and sickness.

During this class i provided all materials needed for them to make their pieces.

I had fresh Cedar and Balsam Fir cut up into different sizes so it was easier to use and handle and that way no one needed to cut anything and have the possibility to cut their self, i also had a variety of fake greenery cut. I had fake pine, evergreen pieces, holly, mistletoe, pinecones and red berries.

Once everything was laid out and organized in different areas, each person got to pick out their own decorative box that everything would sit in, they each got a green floral foam to soak in water so that the real pieces wouldn't dry out on them. Once everyone was ready to begin placing their pieces into the foam i showed them the best way to make it look full, we started with the Balsam Fir pieces placed closer to the bottom, then we placed the Cedar pieces around but i little closer up, once we placed those we used some of the fake pieces to make it look more full and used the floral sticks to twist around some of the pinecones and ornaments to place in the middle to give it some pop and color. Everyone also got a Fir scent stick to place in their box so that if had the fresh scent of the trees.

Each person walked away that evening with their own floral piece, a smile, knowledge of what each piece of greenery was and what they were called and found and the knowledge of how to make their own centerpieces in the future and the supplies needed to make their own if they would like to.

I also had the help of a Master Gardener that has just finished up the classes and is now working towards getting her volunteer hours to become certified.

Here are some examples of some that people had done and taken home with them for the holidays!
