KYNEP Agent Updates: A Newsletter to Help County Agents Reach SNAP-eligible Audiences

The Kentucky Nutrition Education Program (KYNEP) Agent Updates newsletter has played a crucial role in addressing food and nutrition insecurity in Kentucky communities. Launched in 2022, the newsletter serves as a comprehensive source of information for County Extension Agents and Staff, keeping them informed about KYNEP initiatives and encouraging them to expand their reach to individuals with limited resources.


The newsletter, a collaborative effort led by the State NEP team, has been distributed through regular district staff meetings, emailed PDFs with key hyperlinks, and mass emails. It reaches agents across all 120 counties in Kentucky, ensuring widespread accessibility. NEP Area Agents provide support and follow-up assistance.


Since its launch, the newsletter has released several editions, with County Agents utilizing NEP resources and materials such as Cook Wild Kentucky materials and the NEP Food and Nutrition Calendar. NEP-related agent trainings have also received positive feedback, with high enrollment numbers.


In addition to the newsletter, various resources like the NEP Food and Nutrition Calendar, Cook Wild KY materials, and Hunger in KY data are utilized to support information dissemination. County Agents leverage these resources to provide valuable services to SNAP-eligible individuals and limited-resource audiences.


The newsletter's success is evident in bridging the gap between KYNEP and County Agents, equipping them with tools and knowledge to address food and nutrition insecurity. By expanding their reach to diverse audiences, County Agents make a tangible impact on Kentucky communities' well-being and security.


The KYNEP Agent Updates newsletter embodies the mission of the Extension Service, shedding light on valuable resources and programs available to the public. It raises awareness, promotes collaboration, and ultimately improves food and nutrition security across the state.
