Cheese Please
The University of Kentucky Nutrition Education Program calibrated with Perry County School System for a series of 7 after-school nutrition education classes with parents and youth. Where families would learn to cook together and have family meals together. The curriculum Healthy Choices for Every Body was taught. Where families were taught my plate, food safety, budgeting, meal planning, label reading, along with other Nutrition Education programing. Using Healthy Choices Recipe. Recipe to be prepared was given at the beginning of each class. The parents and youth would prepare the recipe, and the class would sample the recipe. One of the recipes were Colorful quesadillas. The SNAP-ED Assistant Senior was unable to obtain whole wheat tortillas at the local grocery. The group used whole wheat bread instead. The recipe used several vegetables along with cheese another items. While making the colorful quesadillas, one of the parents stated his kids would never eat or even try this,. We as a family don’t like cheese of any kind. While making the recipe the parent reintegrated that the kids would not even try this. After sampling the recipe, the parent and youth came up to SNAP-ED assistant Senior with an apology for making the statement. The parent and the youth both loved the quesadillas, the cheese was awesome, and stated they would now make these at home very often.
