The Daviess County Extension Service and Nutrition Education Program has an ongoing partnership with a local radio station, WBKR, 92.5, to have a monthly segment on the morning show. During the segment, the monthly SNAP calendar recipe is highlighted, discussed and taste tested by the radio Disc Jockey’s. The Daviess County Extension Family and Consumer Sciences Extension Agent filled in for the monthly segment from July to February, in the absence of an NEP assistant. Our new NEP assistant has taken this over and continues to highlight the monthly calendar recipe. Each month the recipe’s simple ingredients are discussed as well as the inexpensive cost of the recipes. This partnership helps highlight the calendar and promote in season/local produce and market extension and the NEP programs and recipe calendars. This monthly radio segment reaches over 60,000 indirect contacts monthly.
During this time, the extension service was also able to discuss and promote our Cook Wild calendars and recipes. One of the morning Disc Jockey’s also wrote about the cook wild recipes and calendar in his blog which reaches thousands of community members.
