The number of adults who say they drank sugary beverages on a daily basis has dropped 12% according to an article published by Web Md in 2017. It appears that the message of sugary drinks being harmful to our health is getting through to people.
The University of Kentucky College of Agriculture Food and Environment Cooperative Extension Service along with Kentucky River Community Care presented a series of 7 lessons from the Healthy Choices for Everybody Curriculum in Perry County KY. Nutrition classes were presented to a group of ladies that wanted help with basic life skills. The group consisted of people with very limited income and all participants had children in the home. Classes focused on topics such as good nutrition, label reading, budgeting, as well as others.
After the lessons concluded and data was recorded, reports showed that there was significant improvement in the area of the amount of sugary drinks consumed by these families. Data showed a decrease of 67% consumption of sugary drinks reported by the families that took part in the class on label reading.
