The Montgomery County Family and Consumer Sciences Program offered a new-to-the-county program called Cooking Through the Calendar as it was one of the highly requested programs from community members. Adults who inquired about the program were eager to learn cooking skills or enhance their cooking skills alongside learning new and nutritious recipes to offer their families and how to save money while doing so.

The program began in January 2023 and will be offered on a monthly basis until December 2023. Each session is approximately 1-hour from 12:00pm (noon) and hosted at the Montgomery County Extension Office.

Each month, the featured recipe from the Nutrition Education Recipe Calendar is demonstrated by the Family and Consumer Sciences Agent, Sarah Congleton then participants make their own recipe together as a class. In the demonstration, the Agent practices food safety, knife skills, measuring skills, substitutes information, etc.

Thus far, there have been 12 participants, female, who have attended each session. The feedback from those participants have been positive. They have all volunteered to take the QR code survey found on each recipe as well as share amongst one another if they will be remaking the recipe at home for their families. Overall, participants have shared they are really enjoying this program and have learned a new tip or trick each time regarding nutrition and how to make meals less expensive.
