Plan of Work: Empowering Youth

Outcome: Long-Term Outcome

The Owen County 4-H Youth Development Agent met with the Outdoor Adventure Club, this club is designed for youth to learn skills related to basic survival, fishing, kayaking, hiking, and outdoor safety.

This meeting 10 youth were eager to get started, this lesson was on fire starting with a ferrocenium rod, this rod is suitable for all weather conditions and an amazing survival tool for anyone to carry. The youth learned the proper technique for this tool, then got to master it on their own. In our next meeting the members will expand their learning by using these tools to create a fire, and they decided they wanted to cook over it, so we will be boiling water, making hot dogs, and enjoying this time.

All the students mastered this skill, by learning by doing, which is a true part of 4-H. Please see pictures below from this meeting.
