Outcome: Initial Outcome

Food Safety is always a concern in the kitchen.  We want to make sure we do things correctly to avoid getting sick.  A group of 25 men from a local rehabilitation center was the focus of this class.  A survey was given out at the beginning of the 7 series classes.  Approximately 75% of the men washed their hands before handling any food.

The “Keeping Food safe for Everybody” lesson was taught.  Subject matter included how bacteria can effect out health, how to purchase safe food, storing food safely, cooking temperatures and proper thawing methods of food.  A reminder of food safety was given at each of the seven lessons.

One of the men said “I never thought about handling food like at a drive thru such as grabbing fries before washing our hands.  I just think about washing my hands if I prepare it.”

After the class on food safety about 80% of the men said they washed their hands before touching any food.
