In the fall we held the annual Fayette County Youth Livestock and Country Ham sale. The last few years I've happily taken this challenge on as part of my job responsibilities. I saw a need for improvement to how the sale was being conducted, and getting the community and volunteers engaged more than they had been in the past. In coordinating the youth show/sale committee, I was able to help transition the sale to another location to give it a "face lift". We had near record turnout for students selling animals (25), and a good number of cured country hams (15) from the 4H kids as well. Buyers and sellers alike were very happy with the new location and improvement upon how the sale was being conducted, over 100 folks were in attendance which was more than we'd had in a long time. We provided a meal, decorated the place very nicely, recognized sponsors better than they ever had been in the past, and most importantly, showcased the students and 4H members above it all! I feel confident in saying that the sale will only continue to improve and affect more students in a positive way in the future.
