Campbell County 4-H Teen Leadership Allows Youth the Opportunity for Service Learning Projects

According to a survey completed by the University of Nevada, Reno Extension; Teens say the benefits received from completing service projects in their communities are learning to respect others; learning to be helpful and kind; learning to understand people who are different; developing leadership skills, becoming more patient, and better understanding of citizenship.
This month was the first meeting of Campbell County 4-H Teen Leadership for the new program year. This program is open to all Campbell County youth currently in grades 6-12. In attendance at the October meeting were 17 youths from five different schools within Campbell County. Of those 17 youths, eight of them are new members.
At the first meeting, youth completed a survey indicating what they hope to get out of participating in this program.
-15/17 indicated they would like to participate in community-based service learning projects.
-17/17 indicated that participating in community service learning projects allows them to feel more connected to the community they live in.
-15/17 indicated that participating in service learning projects helps develop leadership skills.
