Muhlenberg By the Numbers
The Muhlenberg County Cooperative Extension Service provides practical education by helping individuals, families, and communities solve problems, develop skills, and build a better future. 20% of the total population of 30,800 Muhlenberg countians is below the poverty rate. The Muhlenberg County SNAP-Ed (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) Education assistant serves the limited resource families in Muhlenberg County. In 2021-2022 eleven traditional families completed the seven lesson Healthy Choices for Everybody program.
Families were taught how to serve more nutritious meals, to store foods safely, and to use their local food resources more effectively.
Overall 62% of clients showed improvement in their diet quality, 70% of families showed improvement in food resource management, and 54% of families showed improvement in food safety behaviors. Upon completion of the program, 100% of the families made an improvement in the nutritional quality of their diet.
