Youth Positive Changes
The Allen County Senior NEP paraprofessional partnered up with the Boys & Girls Club of Allen County and The Core of Scottsville taught 185 youth of limited resource how to serve more nutritious meals, to keep foods safe, and to utilize local food resources effectively.
95% of NEP graduated youth made an improvement in the nutritional quality of their diet.
72% of NEP graduated youth Improved their ability to prepare simple, nutritious, affordable food or gained knowledge.
68% of youth increased the frequency of moderate physical activity for 30 minutes per day.
82% of youth demonstrated an improvement in safe food handling practices and hand washing behavior.
The Core of Scottsville would walk the children to the Allen County Extension Office on Fridays. Mrs. Nancy would divide the children into 6 cooking stations. Were each child would participant in cooking a recipe. This would improve the children’s skills in the kitchen. The children would sample the recipe and drink water. This program increased the physical activity, their water intake, and the opportunity to try new vegetables and foods.
