Making Healthy Food Choices
Hardin County has several youth groups with in the County. P.U.R.E. (Perfect You Really Exist)
Is a youth group designed for girls in grades 3rd to 12th. P.U.R.E. assist the young ladies, with homework, prep for standardize testing, college prep, life skills, and hygiene.
Life skills (cooking classes) was on Saturday’s mornings. In the classes, they were taught about food safety, temperature reading, how to wash dishes properly, and washing hands properly, measuring and knife skills. The classes were 2 hours long on Saturday. The girls would make their own breakfast or lunch ranging from eggs their way, biscuits, sausage, and bacon, homemade pizza, tacos, made their own subs of choice turkey or ham.
The girls also, made Christmas dinner for their parents. Which consisted of ham, fried chicken, green beans, mash potatoes, macaroni and cheese, and dinner rolls. The parents were surprised at how well the girls did on the dinner.
One of the young girls stated that because of this class she has become more interested in cooking and wanting to eat more, healthier.
