Major Program: Nutrition and Food Systems General
Outcome: Long-Term Outcome
Working families struggle with healthy lunch ideas and making time for a healthier eating for their families. Partnering with the Owsley County Court House the Owsley County Expanded Food Nutrition Education Program assistant provided lessons from the Healthy Choice Curriculum. Lessons taught were: My Plate, Meal Planning, Keeping Foods Safe, Grains, Fruits, Eating Better and Budget. In Owsley County money is an ongoing issue with each and every family. After the completion of each lesson, focus was turned to budget. The budgeting lesson included meal planning, couponing, shopping sales and using left over food items.
After completing the program families showed a 100% improvement in food safety, food security, food management and diet quality. Participants are continuing to make healthy changes for them and their families.
Let’s make it count.
