Making a Difference

Author: Sherry Becknell

Planning Unit: Owsley County CES

Major Program: Nutrition and Food Systems General

Outcome: Long-Term Outcome

After a historic flood in Owsley County, the Expanded Food Nutrition Education Program assistant partnered with: Owsley County Food Bank, Neighbors in Need (community organization), Partnership Housing and United Methodist Life Center to inform citizens about food safety after a flood, food distribution places and shelters.  Homes were destroyed, roads were washed out unpassable and families were living in their yards in whatever they could to provide shelter for their families. Over 500 meals a day was being prepared, delivered and served to residents in the county. An organization needs partnerships to be a successful commodity for their county.

So, how do you measure success one might ask? Success could be measured by being a part of a group that finds ways, gives hope and willing to take necessary actions to serve the citizens in need.
