Planning Unit: Butler County CES
Major Program: Nutrition and Food Systems General
Outcome: Long-Term Outcome
CDC’s 2018 State Indicator Report on Fruits and Vegetables, reports only 8.0% of adults meet the daily fruit intake recommendation and a mere 6.3% of adults meet the daily recommended vegetable intake. The Butler County Nutrition Education Program Assistant partnered with Kentucky Christian Recovery to improve the overall outcome of their client’s dietary consumption of fruits and vegetables.
31 individuals were taught a seven-week curriculum Healthy Choices for Every Body. Out of those enrolled, 90% showed improvement in one or more diet quality indicators such as eating fruits, vegetables, red and orange vegetables, dark green vegetables or drinking less soda. According to the CDC, “Eating a diet rich in fruits and vegetables can help protect against many serious and costly chronic diseases, including heart disease, type 2 diabetes, some cancers, and obesity.”
The Butler County NEP assistant, along with Kentucky Christian Recovery, worked together to make a positive change in the dietary decisions and healthy choices of their clients.
