The Lawrence County Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP-Ed) senior assistant partnered with the Family Resource Center at Blaine Elementary School to provide the Healthy Choices for Every Body (HCEB) nutrition program to 5 parents / guardians of the children in the 2021 Angel Tree program. Seven required lessons from HCEB were taught as part of the Angel Tree program. Recipe samples and reinforcements pertaining to the lessons taught were provided to participants during each class.  Evaluations showed 67 % participants improved in diet quality by eating vegetables more often each day and 50 % drink regular soda less often. The participants also improved their knowledge of food safety as follows:   67 % wash their hands more often before preparing food and 100 % use a meat thermometer to check their food, after learning the proper way to calibrate the meat thermometer for accurate reading, and 100 % thaw frozen foods at room temperature less often.
