Outcome: Long-Term Outcome

According to the CDC Disability and Health Data System for Kentucky, 33% of adults ages 18-65+  have some form of disability. The Madison County Cooperative Extension Service Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program Assistant has been teaching lessons at ALM day center about My Plate, the different food groups and better food choices, food safety and sanitation, one of the lessons was whole grains. Clients made a loaf of whole wheat bread themselves to take home and bake.  They were full of smiles and so proud of their efforts.  Participants did so well the director of the center told a friend about our activity. She noted how well it went to a friend who was a director at another center in Richmond. I received a phone call and was asked to visit her center. I was welcomed to Bright Futures and we scheduled lessons for nine participants who were in attendance. The clients have learned proper handwashing, the importance of breakfast while making their own fruit and yogurt parfaits.  The are an excited group and are curious about what we are doing next.
