Plan of Work: Empowering Taylor County Community Leaders

Outcome: Intermediate Outcome

Great leadership drives great Extension programs.  Extension Council members are trained so they may understand their responsibilities as leaders to help plan, implement, and review educational programs conducted by the Taylor County Cooperative Extension Service.

Local producers are promoted through a Direct Sales Brochure developed by the Extension Council.

The Taylor County Agriculture Advancement Council meets 11 times a year where educational or informational programs are presented.   The Chamber of Commerce Agriculture Person of the Year is selected by this group.

The Taylor County Homemakers are excelling in leadership at the area and state level.  A leader served as president of the Lake Cumberland Area Extension Homemakers and serves on the state board.  Taylor County also has three leaders serving as area chairmen. At the State Homemakers Annual Meeting, Taylor County leaders received the top three awards in volunteer hours, Taylor County received first in the largest overall donation to the Ovarian Cancer fund with a donation of $5,600, first place in Community Volunteerism Category and second place in the 4-H category.  They also awarded three high school seniors scholarships totaling $3,000.  They held two successful soup luncheon fundraisers to be able to fund those scholarships.  They also prepared food for tornado victims and for the local Feed Me Friday program at the Homeless Shelter.

The Taylor County Extension District Board has provided funding for the hiring of a 4-H Agent, secretary, 4-H assistant and Family and Consumer Science Agent.  Leaders are involved in the screening process for agents.
