Often we hear somebody complaining about how bad the young people of today are.  Usually it is followed with a comment about how somebody needs to do something.  I wish those individuals could hear a story that I was told this week.

This year [2017] a teen leader from Perry County went to the Kentucky State Fair representing his county. There with all of those unknown people around him with great confidence he introduced, demonstrated and taught how to play Dulcimers.  People who knew him were pleasantly amazed and surprised.  When asked where his interest in dulcimers began, he responded “when that guy [Ray Wilson] taught dulcimers at Feltner 4-H camp.”

Too often we think camp classes aren’t important or we think such activities does not matter.  However, we are wrong. When an event fills a young person’s life with confidence and purpose to the point that they can stand before others, that is youth development and leadership development at its best.  We are making the best better.
