In South Central Kentucky there are numerous types of wild game that can be harvested. However many families struggle to know how to prepare wild game. Game meats are naturally low in fat and cholesterol but traditional cooking methods such as frying are often resorted to due to a lack of knowledge about alternative ways to cook and use the meat. University of Kentucky SNAP education identified this issue and created a series of Cook Wild Kentucky recipe cards

The Edmonson County FCS Agent set up at a local store to promote Cook Wild recipes in November of 2021. The agent prepared two different venison recipes for sampling.  One hundred and ninety seven samples were given out and over three hundred recipe cards were distributed. Verbal surveys showed 100% of participants tried the recipes, 100% of participants said they would make at least one of the recipes at home, 100% of participants said they would recommend these recipes to a friend. In addition 52 clients visited the office between November 2021 and May 2022 to ask for additional Cook Wild Recipe cards.
