In February of 2021, a former Clark County Homemaker reached out to the Extension office wanting help with container vegetable gardening. This particular resident had recently moved into a senior living facility and was looking for ways to engage and interact with the other residents. She had grown a vegetable garden her entire life and new the bonding that could happen with neighbors when produce was shared. She had hopes that growing vegetables at this facility would help bring the residents together and create new friendships. The facility had given her permission to do a few small container gardens. This resident had never gardened in containers before, but knew the Extension Office could help. Once she had made connections with the Clark County Extension Agent for Horticulture, the agent visited with her several times over the next few months to provide education, materials and supplies, and even a helping hand in getting things planted.  The resident later shared that the garden beds had been key in developing a stronger sense of community among at the facility among both residents and their caregivers. She also shared that residents who had never gardened before int heir life had began learning new things and were grateful for the experience and knowledge that Clark County Extension had supplied for them.
