Reopening the temporary UK Entomology Laboratory in Eddyville in Western-KY
Author: Raul Villanueva
Planning Unit: Entomology
Major Program: Tornado Response and Recovery
Outcome: Intermediate Outcome
The temporary laboratories on the UK-REC site were initially scheduled by the end of 2022. Since it would be impossible for entomology to complete its program without a place to do office, and lab work, Raul Villanueva, the extension entomologist for the UK-REC, led a group of professors (Carl Bradley (Plant pathology) and Edwin Ritchey (Plant and soil Science)) to look for a rental space that would solve the lack of space to do lab work in 2022. After waiting three months, to pass inspections, all red tape by state regulations, and many types of delays we received the certificate of occupancy on June 23. The entomology workplace is partially installed in a 1200 sq-ft space which is shared with Drs. Bradley, and Edwin Ritchey. Here, insect ID, and work space for summer worker, insect rearing, and other bio-assays has been conducted.
