Statistics show that 2 out of 3 students are unprepared for life after high school. Therefore proving that far too many students lack the social and transitional skills needed to adequately enter the “real world” and cope with the demands of everyday adult life. With more than 65% of students being unprepared to take on life and/or social success, we raised the question: “Are schools teaching and preparing students with the essential social and life skills needed for a successful transition to adulthood?” (www.stanfield.com/blog/2015/02/lifesmart-curriculum-white-paper-social-and-life-skills/)  Partnering with Lloyd High School Family resource Center and Counseling program Kenton county 4-H program is making sure the seniors graduating in 2018 will leave high school with cooking skills, The 4-H program is meeting with every Senior to learn cooking skills. During this time the students will learn how to use a knife and the proper way to cut vegetables. How to measure food, how to store food and how to maintain a healthy diet after High school. Using these skills the seniors then take the items they have prepared and make an omelet. After completing this program 94% of the students said they learned a new cooking skill. 96% of the students felt they were better prepared to cook for themselves after high school. 85% of the students say they learned how to store food properly.  All of the students suggested that 4_h show continue the program and add more classes for next years Seniors.
