Outcome: Initial Outcome
Grayson County 4-H Agent and community volunteer began a new series group called 4-H Everyday Entrepreneurs for 4-H aged youth interested in business development and marketing. The purpose of this group was to teach youth what is an entrepreneur, development of a business and business model, and marketing and branding of the business and products. The series group met monthly from September through April of program year 2022. The group began with 8 youth with business ideas that ranged from handmade crochet/knit items, to homemade pickles, to goat by-products. By the end of the program, the youth had an opportunity to present to a ‘Shark Tank’ panel of three community business representatives. While only 1 youth completed the program and business plan from beginning planning to present to the panel, all youth learned business basics and concepts for developing their own businesses. The one youth that presented has created her own business called “Yarn Fusion” hand making crocheted items from various sizes of animals, kitchen towels, dust clothes, and jewelry. She sells her items primarily at the local farmers market and has become a paid member/vendor of that organization. After her presentation, she was awarded $150 from the 4-H Council to invest back into her business; which she plans to invest in business cards, business stickers, additional patterns and more yarn. Additionally, one of the business owners on the panel donated a Brothers label printer (valued over $200) to her so she can expand her business online and do shipping.
